About The Federation

Arab Sports Federation for People with Disabilities is a sports Federation that enjoys legal personality as well as administrative and financial independence. It serves as an umbrella organization for the National Paralympic Committees in the Arab countries, in accordance with the provisions of the Paralympic Charter, the International Paralympic Committee, and the regulations of continental and international federations.

Mission

To lead the development of para sports in the Arab world through effective governance, organizing championships, capacity building, and unifying technical and medical standards, in a way that enhances opportunities for participation and fair competition, and enables athletes to reach their full potential at both the regional and international levels, in cooperation with national federations, international bodies, and partners.

Vision

A more inclusive Arab community where para sports take the lead on podiums regionally and internationally, serving as a model of integrity, innovation, equal opportunities, and accessibility for all.

Our History

1987

Founded in Baghdad, Iraq, under the presidency of Dr. Abbas Radhi Al-Tikriti.

2018

The General Assembly approved the return to the old name while maintaining the statutes ratified in 2015.

2024

Based on the General Assembly meeting in Cairo at the headquarters of the League of Arab States, the name was changed to the Arab Federation for Sport for Persons with Disabilities.

2015

The name was approved to be changed to the Arab Paralympic Committee, but after being rejected by the International Paralympic Committee, the original name — the Arab Federation for Sport for the Disabled — was reinstated.

2022

The name was amended to the Arab Federation for Sport for Persons with Disabilities at the General Assembly in Cairo.

Our Objectives

Organizing Arab tournaments, championships, competitions, and sports activities among national teams and clubs in the Arab world in the approved sports, and encouraging Arab Paralympic committees to participate.
Enhancing the Arab Federation’s participation in various international and continental championships, and establishing a global identity for Arab Paralympic sport.
Developing Arab Paralympic sport and expanding the base of participation in competitive Paralympic games across the Arab world.
Developing elite sport and enhancing the competitiveness of Arab national Paralympic committees to enable Arab clubs and teams to reach the global level and achieve Paralympic medals.
Ensuring the sustainability and diversity of events, competitions, championships, courses, and seminars across the Arab world.
Strengthening relations with the International Federation, as well as with relevant continental and regional federations, bodies, and organizations.
Supporting and promoting the Paralympic sports movement, and enhancing the technical, skill, and organizational levels of athletes through all available means and resources.
Supporting the presence of Arab expertise and competencies in decision-making positions within regional, continental, and international bodies.
Promoting competitive women’s sport and working to ensure their participation in the various competitions and championships organized by the Federation.
Raising community awareness of the importance of sport for persons with disabilities through publications, media, and social media.
Strengthening relations and fostering cooperation with relevant committees, bodies, federations, and organizations.

Duties and Responsibilities of the Union

  1. Establishing the statutes and regulations related to carrying out the duties and responsibilities, and continuously evaluating them.

  2. Preparing strategic plans in line with the vision, mission, and objectives of the Federation.

  3. Preparing the Federation’s work plan and implementation mechanism.

  4. Organizing events and programs to develop administrative and technical aspects.

  5. Preparing and approving the Federation’s championship program for each sports season in coordination with the relevant committees.

  6. Organizing, hosting, and operating Paralympic championships and competitions, owning the related rights, and marketing them.

  7. Supporting, encouraging, and conducting relevant research and studies.

  8. Preparing and implementing marketing and investment plans to strengthen the Federation’s financial resources.

  9. Forming permanent and temporary committees and assigning them specific tasks and powers.

  10. Determining membership fees, registration fees, or charges for services provided by the Federation.

  11. Issuing technical, financial, administrative, and organizational regulations.

Commitments of the Union

  1. Complying with the legislations and decisions issued by the relevant international bodies, whether under the Olympic or Paralympic framework.

  2. Adhering to all regulations, decisions, and circulars issued by the International Paralympic Committee, provided they do not conflict with the legislations of the relevant International Federation.

  3. Complying with the anti-doping regulations issued by the National Anti-Doping Committee and the World Anti-Doping Agency, as well as the decisions issued by them.

  4. Abiding by the rules and provisions of the Paralympic Charter.

  5. Committing to the principle of complete neutrality in political, religious, ideological, sectarian, and ethnic matters, refraining from addressing them, and avoiding any interference in the internal affairs of member states.

  6. Avoiding all forms of discrimination between individuals, countries, or groups on the basis of religion, origin, color, race, gender, or language.
